Why Learn AKKI Kenpo

A Revolutionary Breakthrough in the Martial Arts

Known as a world champion fastdraw artist and student of Ed Parker, Paul Mills bridged the gap between his Kenpo and fastdraw skills by looking at the motion and mindset that helped him tie and break several world shooting records.

In fastdraw speed shooting, motion is measured in milliseconds. Body mechanics are internalized on the super micro-precision level where one learns to move without conscious thought. In parallel, this same level of precision is required in AKKI Kenpo for maximum action potential.

Mills began to make connections between the motion that tied these two skill sets together and in doing so uncovered the internalization patterns. These patterns are critical to facilitating proper muscle memory that leads to economy of motion.

Using these ideas as the central theme, everything in AKKI kenpo was completely revamped and designed around them; starting from yellow belt on up. Every part of the system utilizes these simple yet highly practical patterns of motion.

The internalization patterns not only accelerate your learning but also quicken your reflexes and more than double your hand speed. This streamlines the process such that skills that used to take years to master now can be internalized in half the time.

Many traditional martial artists believe it takes several years for a student to become competent on the street. That is because they don't use these patterns to hardwire their students nervous system. While parts of their system utilize some of the patterns, they don't totally revolve around them making the process longer to become proficient.

Based on the American Kenpo system taught by Senior Grandmaster Edmund K. Parker, AKKI Kenpo leverages the best of Parker's system with many new principles, concepts and updated techniques, forms, sets as well as two weapons systems that were previously un-addressed.

AKKI Kenpo offers you:

  • Updated techniques that have been consolidated or created to facilitate quicker internalization and quicker reaction times.
  • Offensive techniques have been added to the system, which are separate from our freestyle techniques. They bridge the gap between the freestyle moves and self defense techniques.
  • Four ranges of combat are covered within our belt curriculum including kicking, punching, close quarter trapping, and grappling (ground and standing).
  • Self-defense techniques are structured based on speed, surprise, and simplicity as well as other principles of motion.
  • Our curriculum includes progressive two-man interactive training drills, techniques, forms, sets and freestyle. Internalization occurs faster with hands on application. So, unlike more traditional approach taken in American Kenpo, virtually everything is done with two people interacting with each other.
  • AKKI Kenpo – A mixed martial art. While many Kenpo systems are simply adding elements of other arts to make their systems "more complete", AKKI Kenpo offers empty hand, ground, stick, and club fighting based on the American Kenpo system.
  • There are different levels to each form - standard and black belt versions. This is so that as skill and proficiency increases; there are more advanced and sophisticated ideas of self-defense to learn, practice, and explore.

These innovative and critical updates have made the AKKI system of American Kenpo a powerful and modern day self-defense program to learn and study.
