By Paul Mills
We want to be at the forefront of the next millennium.
To accomplish this we need to be responsible and take
action now to shape our destiny. As we prepare for the
21st century we must have a vision, provide direction,
motivation and have a purpose to architect the development
for the growth and future of the AKKI. We refuse to
accept what is, as what must be.
Each year we strive to rekindle the spark, hope and
assurance of our members, to provide them with a very
unique, innovative and progressive Kenpo Association.
We realize that opportunity never comes to those who
wait - they are captured by those who dare to attack.
A practitioner working by himself or herself is not
all that powerful, just like a drop of water from the
sky will have very little impact when it hits the ground.
Although, when you combine that single drop with millions
of others that are moving in the same direction, you
have the force of a tidal wave.
One of the most important tools to become successful
in the AKKI is teamwork. It is essential to develop
a creative and innovative team of inspired and imaginative
thinkers, grounded in values and focused on results.
It is only through the synergies of the team that we
will experience phenomenal growth. Practitioners who
team up with others creates a magical, magnificent,
and unbelievable force that can handle anything that
might rise against it.
As I reflect back to examine what has happened this
past year. I am amazed at the awesome force that is
created when members work together toward common goals.
Synergy, focus and unity are extremely important powerful
concepts. When everyone moves in one direction, working
and creating together to reach common goals, the result
is more than just impressive, it is awesome.
No person, no matter how successful, has ever accomplished
anything alone. No one can say, "look at what I
did." All of the members, synergistically working
together can be extremely proud of what we are accomplishing
in the AKKI.
We have united together, orchestrating the creation
of the AKKI. Many of the members are freely giving by
choice their time, talent, and energy, launching the
AKKI into one of the fastest growing Kenpo Associations
in the world. Our Association has survived its share
of growing pains and together we have endured many trials
and tribulations. We have come a long way by sustaining
and supporting each other in the AKKI this past year.
In the beginning our Association was like a tiny spark
that ignited and transformed into a beautiful and mighty
flame. This flame is circling the world, igniting the
needs of other prospective members and schools. All
of us need to reach out and touch someone and ignite
his or her interest to study AKKI Kenpo, "The Art
of the Future!" Each and every one of us is responsible
for making this circle we live in a better, kinder and
happier place. Flourishing out of this circle, the good
will flow touching all practitioners throughout the
world.
We must continue to be honorable leaders, set good
examples, and be great role models for our young students
to follow for generations to come. Our AKKI Instructors
must demonstrate trustworthiness, a high degree of competence
and maintain a strong character. We must not allow feelings
to prevail over facts. We must not tolerate injustice
to avoid discomfort, nor allow perception to displace
truth. Our AKKI members know better, expect better and
will hold their leaders and Instructors to doing better.
We must use wise and inspired judgment when helping
and guiding our students, new members, and peers. Using
sound wisdom we can help our members make practical,
logical, effective and corrective adjustments to guide
their vast understanding of knowledge, and motion. This
true Mastery of the Art becomes possible, and within
our grasp.
Now, as in the years to come, we must stay humble
and be willing to keep open minds and hearts. One of
the greatest discoveries that each one of us can unveil
is altering our attitudes of mind. We then have truly
unlocked a Master Key of Kenpo. When you attain a positive
attitude, you are unconquerable in your climb to the
summit.
We must empty our cups, learn new skills, and seek
more knowledge, developing and balancing the scholar
and warrior within us. We must keep relearning, as well
as learning! Our members need to further their education
that is learned not just taught, through nontraditional
as well as traditional means. This will provide intelligent
and competitive practitioners prepared for the 21st
century.
All of us need to concentrate on developing our own
natural gifts and talents. We must not compare ourselves
to other practitioners, for no two practitioners have
the same level of ability or experience. We must use
more and more of ourselves, until we eventually reach,
and develop a greater and fuller range of our potential.
We must recognize that every challenge is an opportunity
to take a positive step toward reaching our highest
potential, dreams and goals.
I suggest that we pursue a commitment to personal excellence.
To continue down this road of perfection we need to
be mentally and physically dedicated, determined and
persistent. To reach our dreams and goals, we must maintain
an overwhelming burning desire. Knowledge, skill and
desire implant success consciousness that leads us to
a habit of success. Every one of us has something that
we need to Master in Kenpo, as well as life.
Our wisdom, being born of inspiration, guides our creative
thoughts with new approaches and innovative ideas. We
must have the courage and perseverance to finish what
we have set out to accomplish. Our purpose and goal
is Mastery of both ourselves and the Art of Kenpo.
We have to understand and know who and what we are,
overlook each others weak points and continue
to strengthen those around us by always setting a good
example. Being very tolerant, understanding and patient
with each other, we must lift and strengthen each other
for the challenging times ahead. All of us must master
the skill of functioning together as an Association,
working hard and joining together to overcome all obstacles
and stay on a true and faithful course.
Kenpo should be an endless journey onward and upward
moving toward the highest level of perfection. We in
the AKKI have a spirit of survival and an appetite for
success. We must rely on spiritual strength with our
embodied wisdom to help guide the AKKI into the coming
millennium.
"Vast is our purpose, wide is
our mission"
Sincerely,
Paul Mills
